About FAU SEEDS
Our Story
Back in 2010, a group of passionate undergraduate students came together to launch our FAU-SEEDS chapter and quite literally blazed a trail by creating what is now known as the Tortuga Trail on the FAU Boca Raton campus. This student-created network of trails has become our outdoor classroom, a gathering place for our community, and a space where we bring our mission to life.

From our annual BioBlitz and trail cleanups to relaxed club socials, the Tortuga Trail has hosted all kinds of SEEDS adventures. It is where we reconnect with nature, strengthen our community, and sometimes get a little too excited about spotting a gopher tortoise.

We take pride in being a student-focused and student-led group. Everything we do is shaped by what our members care about most. Whether you are into bugs, fungi, birds, plants, conservation, or just enjoy being outside, we would love to have you join us. Come explore with us!
Our Mission
SEEDS works hard to 1) create a welcoming space for students of ALL backgrounds to 2) get involved in ecology.

1. What do we mean by ALL backgrounds? SEEDS is open to all students, and our main goal is to bring together anyone who loves nature or is curious about the environment. We aim to create a friendly and respectful space where everyone feels welcome to share, learn, and enjoy the natural world together.
2. What is ecology? Ecology is the study of how living things—like plants, animals, and even tiny microbes—interact with each other and with their environment. It’s like being a nature detective, figuring out who eats what, who helps whom, and how everything from the soil to the sky is connected. Whether it's bees pollinating flowers, wolves shaping forests, or mushrooms breaking down fallen trees, ecology helps us understand the wild web of life all around us!
